i am an artist living and working in salt lake city, utah. i use an astronaut figure in a lot of my work to investigate the loneliness of man against the 21st century created environment.

My work is about Inaccessibility at its core. The idea that we, as a people, build up these protective barriers around ourselves to protect us from the outside world in one sense, but also as psychological barriers as well. These 'suits' protect us, but also prevent us from accessing the world, and people around us. That leads to a sense of loneliness. I also use the astronaut image as a reference to this idea of our future on the planet. Will we one day need a suit to survive? How will we interact with each other if we do? While the aim of my work at this point is not to give a reason why this has happened, it is highlighting the idea, and fear, that something is on the horizon. I read an article recently how the phrase, 'zombie apocalypse' is so familiar in pop culture it doesn't need any outside explanation. It is in our cultural zeitgeist. Collectively, we know that our current lifestyle is not sustainable long term. Recent films and novels like The Road, World War Z, Moon, I Am Legend and countless others confirm this. My work stems from this core idea and has developed more into the human condition study of our inaccessibility as a whole. Taking that post-post-modern idea of our existence and running with it (Douglas Coupland and Don DeLillo are two authors that comes to mind).
